About

Chicago Women’s Journalism Hall of Fame, presented by Association for Women Journalists Chicago is an online museum and monument, whose purpose is to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to further women’s recognition in Chicago journalism. The Hall of Fame was conceived and developed through a crowdfunding initiative.

The Association for Women Journalists Chicago is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization, supporting women in journalism and promoting the respectful treatment of women by the news media. We are working journalists, academics, and students from national, local, and regional news outlets, as well as all major journalism schools in the area. We are inclusive of people of all genders involved in every aspect of the media industry and across all mediums.

In order to celebrate and honor individuals making significant contributions to women’s journalism and how women are treated in the media we will present two awards annually:

  • Chicago Women’s Journalism Hall of Fame Induction
  • Distinguished Achievement Award

Inductees and honorees for both awards are identified and nominated by the AWJ Chicago Hall of Fame Committee board members or members in good standing. Each year the Hall of Fame Committee will review the nominations and choose the most appropriate candidates. Nominations may be made at any time throughout the year. All nominations will be retained for future consideration, for five years. After which time, if not chosen, nominees will need to be re-nominated.
